What You Need to Know About Roll-up Doors
Roll-up doors are made from sheets of metal. In our case, the doors are made from 24-inch-wide sheets of 26-gauge steel. The steel roll has internal grooves, creating a continuous sheet. The roll-formed guides move the sheets vertically, which is how the door opens and closes.
When the door opens, the steel sheets are wound around a spring-loaded shaft, retracting into a compact drum at the top of the door frame. The size of the drum means that you don’t need much clearance to install a steel door, making it a convenient choice for many different applications.
Roll-up doors offer the following benefits:
Durability – steel has a long lifespan and can withstand many years of use. These doors are galvanized steel with a layer of zinc that protects them from rust. They are also finished with a long-lasting powder coating that enhances the door’s appearance while protecting the door.
Enhanced security – the thick sheet of 26-gauge steel is tough and hard to break through, protecting whatever is inside. These doors can also better resist vandalism than other types.
Added insulation – warehouses, garages, and sheds are often heated. A roll-up door can come with a R5 insultation and brush weather seal kit to help keep the heat in during the winter and cool during the summer.
Reduced clearance requirements – the door rolls into a compact drum, which makes it ideal in areas with limited space.
